Tips for Maintaining and Cleaning Jewelry - Make Sure Your Beloved Jewelry Remains New Like the Day You Bought It
Aside from complementing your outfits, jewelry are indispensable for showing off your personal style! Whether your jewelry is stunning K gold, versatile silver jewelry, or elegant yet restrained pearls, they require gentle care. In addition to separate storage to avoid impact, they must be cleaned from time to time to prevent color fading, rust, or darkening.

Avoid contact with perfume, alcohol, acetone, cleaning agents, cosmetics, or other substances containing chemical ingredients during normal wear. If you wear perfume, we recommend putting on your jewelry after applying perfume. Additionally, some jewelry should not come in contact with water so if you’re taking a shower, spending a day at the beach, or enjoying hot springs, we recommend temporarily removing your jewelry.
If your jewelry won’t be worn in the near future, we recommend using a soft cloth to wipe off residual sweat and oils, apply a thick layer of vaseline with a cotton swab, then place it into a zipper bag; by wiping it clean next time you take it out to wear, you can prevent jewelry from rusting. Additionally, different types of jewelry include materials of varying hardness which is why we recommend storing them in individual zipper bags. This not only isolates them from air but you’ll prevent additional damage and wear from storing them in the same jewelry box.

K gold jewelry
With long-term wear, friction will cause the surface of K gold jewelry to be covered in fine scratches, thereby decreasing the sparkle of jewelry. Thus, it’s recommended to wipe K gold surfaces with a cloth regularly or return it to an ALUXE store for polishing and maintenance.
You can also perform simple cleaning with the following steps:
Step 1 - Prepare a bowl of warm water mixed evenly with mild detergent
Step 2 - Place jewelry into the bowl for 15-30 minutes
(Note that if your jewelry contains gemstones, avoid cleaning the stone to prevent irreversible damage)
Step 3 - Gently rinse jewelry with warm water and use a cotton swab or soft bristle toothbrush to clean intricate areas
Step 4 - Finally, use a microfiber cloth to wipe clean before allowing your jewelry to dry, then place it into storage to complete the cleaning process
Silver jewelry
Silver jewelry is prone to turning black due to chemical reactions with sulfur, nitric acid, and oxide in the air. When this happens, you can use silver cleaning liquid or a silver cleaning cloth to restore luster to your jewelry. Also, it’s normal for cloth to stain after wiping, so do not wash your silver cleaning cloth as this will affect its cleaning effects!
platinum
While platinum is harder and more durable compared to other materials, long-term wear will inevitably result in jewelry becoming dusty or stained. When this happens, we recommend cleaning with soapy water. If a visible scratch occurs, we encourage you to return the jewelry to ALUXE where we can perform polishing and maintenance.
Pearl
Due to the high amount of natural materials in pearls, we recommend wearing them after applying perfume or hair products to prevent them from damage after absorbing chemicals. When cleaning pearls, we recommend moistening a soft cloth with soapy water and wiping gently. If an entire pearl necklace is soaked in soapy water, it will cause the gaps in the chain to rust due to moisture. After wiping your pearls with soapy water, wipe the pearls clean by moistening another cloth with clean water. Finally, dry the pearls with a cloth to complete the cleaning process.
These were some simple daily cleaning tips for your jewelry. If you’re unsure of how to clean or handle jewelry, ALUXE is happy to provide assistance at any one of our stores. Our professional cleaning and maintenance will make your jewelry feel brand new again.
